PURWOCENG EXTRACT

Purwoceng (Pimpinella pruatjan) is an endemic medicinal plant native to the highlands of Java, Indonesia, particularly the Dieng Plateau. For centuries, purwoceng has been widely recognized in traditional medicine because of its numerous health benefits, especially its reputation as a natural tonic and vitality enhancer. Owing to its pharmacological properties, purwoceng has attracted considerable attention in the traditional medicine, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, cosmetic, and dietary supplement industries.

Purwoceng belongs to the Apiaceae family, the same family as celery and parsley. The plant is characterized by its small leaves, creeping stems, and fibrous roots that thrive in cool, mountainous environments. Traditionally, the roots and leaves of purwoceng are processed into herbal drinks, powders, extracts, and medicinal preparations to support stamina, improve physical endurance, and maintain overall health. In many Indonesian communities, purwoceng has long been valued as one of the country’s most important medicinal herbs.

Furthermore, purwoceng contains numerous bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, sterols, coumarins, and essential oils, which contribute to its medicinal properties. These compounds exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, adaptogenic, antimicrobial, and immunomodulatory activities that help protect the body from oxidative stress and support physiological functions. Due to its diverse chemical composition and biological activities, purwoceng continues to be cultivated and utilized as an important ingredient in herbal medicines and health-related products.
